I also checked in konqueror and opera, and found that java is not available in them, either. I'm not sure that "Normal" is correct for severity here. The update is installed. When I look at the plugins list in firefox, it now shows a java plugin. So that's a change. However, when I go to a site that uses java, I get: /usr/src/packages/BUILD/icedtea-web-1.1/plugin/icedteanp/IcedTeaNPPlugin.cc:1500: thread 0xb4611190: Error: Failed to spawn applet viewer: Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" (No such file or directory) Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory That second message is very strange, since the computer where I saw that message has ATI graphics, not nvidia graphics. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's a 32 bit system with opensuse 11.4 . On a 64 bit system, I see a similar error message: /usr/src/packages/BUILD/icedtea-web-1.1/plugin/icedteanp/IcedTeaNPPlugin.cc:1500: thread 0x7f57d520f480: Error: Failed to spawn applet viewer: Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" (No such file or directory) Correspondingly, "/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java" does not exist on that system. Before that "icedtea-web" update in late June, I have used java applets on the 32 bit system, and probably on both systems. I'm testing this with: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/crosswords/sudoku/medium.html which should show a sudoku puzzle, and did before that June update. The page itself still works on my Desktop, where I have temporarily switched to Sun java. But with the openjdk version on my laptops, that web page no longer works (it loads, but without the puzzle and with an error popup). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The error message is for /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java which does not exist. Note the difference is between "jre-1.6.0-openjdk" and "java-1.6.0-openjdk". When I look at the java that does exist, and follow the symlinks, that is actually "/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0/jre/bin/java". Because it uses java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0 only, plugin is not able to find the java location and that's the reason I never got this error. I moved this bug to bnc#704419 and will be fixed soon. The workaround is install java-1_6_0-openjdk-devel. I'm closing this bug as plugin_debug symbol is fixed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
