This is caused by incorrect po translation. epico@linux:~/build/openSUSE/gnome-panel/gnome-panel-2.22.1.1/po> grep 星期 zh_CN.po msgstr "%b月%d日，星期%a (%%s)" msgstr "%l:%M <small>%p (星期%A)</small>" msgstr "%H:%M <small>(星期%A)</small>" %A will be format like "星期二". So this translations will become "星期星期二". But it's already fixed in upstream since version 2.22.2.
