https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734157 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734157#c0 Summary: xpdf scrolling agonizingly slow (no problem in 11.4) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: postdoc38@yahoo.fr QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20111121 Firefox/8.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.5 Title says it all: xpdf used to work just fine in 11.4. Did a "live" upgrade from 11.4 to 12.1 (no wiping of /, just upgrading packages). scrolling is now extremely slow and not smooth at all in xpdf. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open file in xpdf 2. try scrolling with cursor keys 3. watch it go step by step as if stuck -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I press e.g. arrow down, it scrolls down quite smoothly, it stops only for some fraction of second per page. When I release that key, it stops _immediately_. Scrolling text is not readable though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I will not reproduce the problem with it (I am using factory on x86_64), I can try install 12.1 on i686 and see what happens. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

My situation is infinitely worse than yours, and happens with every pdf: when I press arrow down, it scrolls step by step, and when I release the key, I have to wait about 10 seconds and more scrolling to get the control back (for instance to close the file). I also tried to compile xpdf 3.03 from source, as well as freetype, to no avail... As I said, it used to work great in 11.4, and stopped working after I did a live update... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I will go yours way and see what's happened. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, I tried using xpdf right after the install with the default (radeon?) graphics driver and scrolling was much smoother than with fglrx (I have an ATI card). OTOH, under 11.4, the combination fglrx + xpdf was working just fine... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Scrolling of pdf's in other apps (like okular) is smooth and reactive, and power management of the graphics card is fine. - with radeon, everything works fine, including xpdf, however power management is an issue (fan runnning too mucg, and so on), even with dynpm. so no perfect setup (except reverting to 11.4)... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
