[Bug 332093] New: cryptsetup: Resize of active encrypted device locks-up the system
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=332093#c1 Summary: cryptsetup: Resize of active encrypted device locks-up the system Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: leskets@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I use an encrypted LVM device with an xfs file system exclusively for on disk backups. While the backup-script (using storeBackup-1.19-73) was running I successfully increased the size of the underlying LVM (from 40G to 42G). After that I wanted to make the added space available with: cryptsetup resize <devicemapper-name> The command did not return. There were not any related messages in /var/log/messages. More and more processes locked because their disk IO (on other logical devices) did not get done. I think I could still start the programms for viewing the logs (kconsole and less), because they where still in the cache. The CPU load was very low. I do not remember, if disk activity stopped immediately. However there was no activity at all for at least a minute until I decided to reboot the machine. Ctrl-Alt-Del started a shutdown but locked even before it could stop the X-Server. Only a hardware reset worked. In my 10.2-installation cryptsetup resize worked. However the logical volume was just mounted but not active at the time. Versions: cryptsetup-1.0.5-31 Linux version 2.6.22.5-31-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.2.1 (SUSE Linux)) #1 SMP 2007/09/21 22:29:00 UTC -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
