But I found this very old bug report where someone claims the exact same problematic combination of openSUSE and NetSpeed plugin: https://github.com/ccrisan/xfce4-netspeed-plugin/issues/8
Maybe it would be good to get in touch with upstream dev to find out what might be causing the problem?

Even thought it's missing updates for a long time now it still works. So, as long as there aren't obvious bugs around I'd vote for keeping it.
