[Bug 472695] New: Problematic XEN machine - host freeze on VM start, VM hang on start
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472695 Summary: Problematic XEN machine - host freeze on VM start, VM hang on start Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: cgriffin@novell.com ReportedBy: novell-web@zmi.at QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=270210) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=270210) Screenshot: not starting xen vm, freezes on network driver load User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 A server (2x quad core opteron, 16GB RAM, RAID, ECC RAM) that runs otherwise fine, but 2 problems frequently occur: 1) If the machine is rebooted, on boot sometimes the machine freezes when starting the first XEN VM. No keypress, no SYSRQ. Just hangs. Can somebody guide me on how to debug? How to do a serial console, what settings, whatever? 2) If the machine is up and VMs stopped, after "xm create ..." of a machine it hangs in the beginning when loading the network drivers (see attachment screenshot). Could that be because the host is using bonding? Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. reboot server, freezes often on boot 2. stop all VMs 3. start VMs: first VM OK, 2nd VM sometimes freezes loading XEN networking (see attach) Actual Results: Server is very unstable - should run in production, but can't like it is now. I run one other server with XEN without any stability problem. Expected Results: A stable XEN server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

How can I debug now? 1) does the port work? 2) does XEN send it's output to the COM port? 3) do I have the correct cable? Pressing CTRL-A six times doesn't do anything, and minicom writes "115200 8N1, NOR, Minicom 2.3, VT102 Offline" down in the status line. mfg zmi -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
