to Reproduce: 1. make sure that bluedevil system tray menu says "not discoverable" 2. make sure there are no bluetooth devices in the vicinity 3. turn off your target bluetooth device 4. run hcidump -t -a -x in a separate shell 5. click on the bluedevil system tray icon to expose the bluedevil menu 6. verify that the hcidump pgm has no output yet 7. click on bluedevil menu item Add Device 8. verify that a Bluetooth Device Wizard popup is displayed 9. verify that the popup has a "Scanning..." indicator displayed 10. verify that hcidump reports ~40 second scan cycle (10 secs scan, 30 secs sleep) 11. during a sleep cycle, turn on your bluetooth device so it can be discovered 12. verify that the hcidump output communicates with the device during the next scan cycle 13. verify that the device is identified on the popup with an icon and its MAC addr (and/or maybe its name) 14. verify the popup continues to report "Scanning..." (instead of "Device found" or "Scan complete" 15. verify that hcidump reports no more output (i.e. the 40 second scan cycle is no longer operating) Actual Results: bluedevil popup reports it is scanning when it isn't Expected Results: Either of a couple of possibilities: 1) bluedevil popup reports something like "Scan complete" (which suggests that maybe a rescan button should also be present on the popup), or 2) the scan cycle continues There are many types of bluetooth devices, some of which have multiple modes/configurations. The user may want to reconfigure the device after its discovered, and have it rediscovered under its new configuration. The Scanning... would be misleading under this circumstance. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think the normal sequence when requesting a name should be: 2011-10-27 11:05:39.262599 < HCI Command: Remote Name Request (0x01|0x0019) plen 10 bdaddr 00:16:53:01:D5:43 mode 2 clkoffset 0x0000 2011-10-27 11:05:39.265413 > HCI Event: Command Status (0x0f) plen 4 Remote Name Request (0x01|0x0019) status 0x00 ncmd 1 2011-10-27 11:05:42.757827 > HCI Event: Remote Name Req Complete (0x07) plen 255 status 0x00 bdaddr 00:16:53:01:D5:43 name 'NXT' It looks to me that instead what happened was: 2011-10-27 09:32:14.233446 < HCI Command: Remote Name Request (0x01|0x0019) plen 10 bdaddr 00:16:53:01:D5:43 mode 2 clkoffset 0x0000 2011-10-27 09:32:14.236232 > HCI Event: Command Status (0x0f) plen 4 Remote Name Request (0x01|0x0019) status 0x00 ncmd 1 and that 2011-10-27 11:05:42.757827 > HCI Event: Remote Name Req Complete (0x07) plen 255 status 0x00 bdaddr 00:16:53:01:D5:43 name 'NXT' was never received. At approximately the same time, the device (who knows why) tried to establish a link (bluedevil didn't know the PIN at this point), which was rejected. After that, the scan stopped. So is this a bad reaction in response to a protocol-level confusion? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
