[Bug 456347] New: psmouse.c lost synchronization

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=456347 Summary: psmouse.c lost synchronization Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dominique.leuenberger@tmf-group.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User System: Dell Precision M4300 As soon as the system is not 'touched' for 2 minutes or so, the touchpad, ballpoint and also the USB Mouse are not reactive when getting back to the system. This happens very frequent, for example when reading a page on the site, carefully reading, then taking the mouse to scroll for example and it's lost. It takes about 15 seconds (estimated, not measured) and then the mouse 'jumps' a bit an it becomes working again. In /var/log/messages, the following lines appear: Dec 3 18:57:15 3120-2914 kernel: psmouse.c: GlidePoint at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 3 bytes away. Dec 3 18:57:17 3120-2914 kernel: psmouse.c: resync failed, issuing reconnect request Please let me know if I can add any additional information. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As soon as I have an external mouse connected, the 'jumping' after idle remains
But the messages about resyncing are not in the kernel log any more, even if jumping occurs? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Jan 21 20:36:10 3120-2914 kernel: psmouse.c: resync failed, issuing reconnect request The parameter has been added to menu.lst, so I'm sure it's always there (I would forget to type it everytime otherwise).
From the dates / times they actually only seem to be logged when no external mouse is connected...

I issue a dmesg -c, get up to get a coffee, come back to my system. By this time I am absolutely sure the mouse is jumpy for a few seconds (3 - 5 seconds). so I move it around (in a very jumpy mode, as expected). I issue again dmesg: -> No content. So nothing was logged /var/log/messages shows those lines since I got up for coffee and came back, until I got control of my mouse again. (The screen was intentionally not locked, no screensaver... ) Mar 27 12:00:12 3120-2914 gnome-session[5779]: DEBUG(+): GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/gnome/ScreenSaver interface=org.gnome.ScreenSaver method=SessionPowerManagementIdleChanged Mar 27 12:00:27 3120-2914 gnome-session[5779]: DEBUG(+): GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/gnome/ScreenSaver interface=org.gnome.ScreenSaver method=SessionPowerManagementIdleChanged Those lines are new in the log files.. must have come as additional debug with some gnome 2.26 updates I think. (The notebook was moved to Factory in the meantime... so with all the new updates, the problem persists) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
