Apparently Ubuntu uses a complete different driver - openchrome it seems. Still I don't believe that this alone enables 3D acceleration. You also need a DRI driver for Mesa with support for VT3344. Yes but, i can compile it successful. This is the question, why others can compile and use it, and I only can compile it.
Maybe with your knowledge and my hardware we can make a team, working together.
Question is why you don't use it although you've compiled it. Probably you didn't adjust the driver entry in /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-devices. It seems so when looking at http://pastebin.com/hN95Rne1 (still unichrome driver is in use). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Apparently you still need to adjust the openchrome sources to the xorg-server version used on openSUSE 11.3. It is release 1.8, but it isn't special at all. Of course you cannot build the driver against xorg-server 1.9 on Ubuntu and then use it on xorg-server 1.8 on openSUSE 11.3.
I can ask in the openchrome forum about this question, I can compile xorg from source as well, but I compiled the driver in opensuse 11.3. I use ubuntu only for testing purpose. In one forum tell that ubuntu 10.10 can run DRI with a hardware like mine and I couldn't belive it, but its true. With the live or installed system is runing without any change. What do you recomend? - Ask in the openchrome forum about what version could be fine. - Compile Xorg from last stable source. - Adjust the driver. Thank you in advance for you time and advice. Good night. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Works for me on a Packard Bell EasyNote (1106:3108 = VIA VT3108/K8M800). Sort of - X starts with 1600x1200 as default resolution (assuming it would be the native resolution), so you only see half of the desktop, since the native resolution is 1024x768. xrandr shows 0Hz as HorizSync for nearly all available resolutions (1600x1200, 1400x1050, 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1280x768, 1024x768, 720x572, 720x540, 720x480). Only 800x600/640x480 shows 60Hz. 3D acceleration seems to work. Please give this RPM a try. aladedragon, I have no recommendation for you. Since you obviously prefer to use Ubuntu for your purposes it would be hard for me to convince you to switch to openSUSE.
Remember my post: "...So I try to understand the way the ubuntu guru's used and do the same in opensuse. For us the more comfortable way is leave it, turn of the pc, go visit our friends and tomorrow use Ubuntu.... I think if we are here is because we like the hard way, we like opensuse. Thanks for you patience an time..." I like openSUSE, I'm subscribed to the Spanish mail list, you can take a look in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-es/2010-10/msg00704.html and you will the Thread about this problem. In the future I will try to write a "how to" (in Spanish and English if possible) and prepare some iso's in my susestudio account. I test the rpm and is runing with the Xorg. conf file I prepare here: The font scaling is to low for my monitor and I have to do some work around this, I can't test the DRI for the moment. Please give me some time to do this and I will post more information. Great work Stefan Dirsch. Thank you a lot. DRI seems to work - as far as I can see. 2. The driver takes the DPI values it gets from your TV via DDC and apparently ignores anything which is specified in the Monitor section. Please blame the openchrome project and not me. 3. Please *attach* config/log files *instead* of *pasting* them as comment into Bugzilla. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The 3D acceleration problem with my hardware has been fixed. Bugzilla resolved with the title: "No Direct Rendering in openSUSE 11.3 with VIA CX700M2 Unified Digital Media IGP chipset / xf86-video-unichrome: VT3344 support 3D acceleration not available" what can be found at: https: / / bugzilla.novell. com / show_activity.cgi? id = 649461. The solution proposed by Stefan Dirsch <sndirsch(en)novell(punto)com> is adding an softwre and install a software package (rpm) from the openSUSE Build Service. The software repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_11.3/ The software package (rpm): http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_11.3/... Sorry to use long texts. It was a mistake on my part. Note: My problem with the image and DPI was solved with the tools of the GNOME desktop environment due to indications of the Spanish mail list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
