[Bug 463479] New: updating to 11.1 from 11.0 - yast picks wrong versions
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463479 Summary: updating to 11.1 from 11.0 - yast picks wrong versions Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: novell-web@zmi.at QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Dear all, I'm in the process of updating my desktop 11.0 to 11.1. For this, I changed all repos to use the 11.1 versions, which are listed in zypper sl -d >zypper-sl.txt (attached with this report) As you can see, I resorted the output based on the priority of the package. Reading the docs the order should be by priority, lower numbers meaning higher priorities. But still, yast/zypper do not really listen to that. I found this on package MozillaFirefox: I have 3.0.5-0.1-x86_64 installed, and automatically version 3.0.4-4.7-x86_64 from openSUSE-11.1-Oss was select, while there even was a never version 3.0.5-1.1-x86_64 available on Updates_for_11.1. The updates repo should even have a higher priority against OSS, so why didn't it get selected? Also, I select "update all packages unconditionally" (or whatever that translates to from "unbedingt" in german). Now I have tons of packages like "mc", which is available in the same version 4.6.2.pre1-120.27-x86_64 both on "openSUSE_11_DVD_lokal_NFS_orion_1" and "openSUSE-11.1-Oss". But the NFS iso image should have priority over the Oss repo, which has to be downloaded over the Internet. This should really be fixed, because now I should update roughly 1650 packages, where most should be on the DVD but get downloaded over the Internet. Hmm.. Now I started the upgrade, and it says 4.5GB get updated, 3.83GB from DVD and only 190MB from the OSS repo. Could it be that yast/zypper does the thing right, despite saying to install from OSS taking it from the DVD? At least then it displays the wrong version info, which is still a bug (but not so problematic at least ;-) Another feature: When I update from 11.0 to 11.1, I of course want all packages to come from 11.1. So there should be an option to "update all packages with different version", no matter if it's newer or older. Like this, I can be sure to have the correct package for the actual distro. There are some packages already newer than the ones from 11.1 (even updates), and with such an option I could simply update all to the actual and correct version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately it's too much of a change, so we can't backport it to 11.0. Thus, updating from 11.0 to 11.1 with the 11.0 zypper is pretty much unsupported. If your update installed the 11.1 package management stack, you can then run 'zypper dup' to bring your packages in an supported state. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
