[Bug 244047] New: Problems with '.' in package names
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244047 Summary: Problems with '.' in package names Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: BuildService AssignedTo: mls@novell.com ReportedBy: dbornkessel@novell.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com Hi. I installed the build service locally. One package created a rpm that contained a '.' in its name. When building a package that needs this package as a BuildRequirement, the build system is not set up and no error message is displayed. Changing the package name removes the problem. Allowing '.' in package names would be important for jpackage packages. My setup: obs-api-0.1.1-4.1 obs-worker-0.1.1-4.1 obs-server-0.1.1-4.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

SUSE forbids it and it will break on other distributions (like Fedora) that use '.' to separate the name from the arch, i.e. "glibc.i686". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244047 ------- Comment #2 from dbornkessel@novell.com 2007-02-12 10:30 MST ------- Mmm ... but jpackage and fedora use '.' in their rpm names, e.g. java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-11jpp.noarch.rpm it would be nice if it would be possible to do that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244047 ------- Comment #3 from mls@novell.com 2007-02-12 10:40 MST ------- My, what a bad decision. Fedora will start cursing if they need multilib java. Does Debian/Ubuntu support dots in package names? If it's just Fedora I'd say tough luck for them. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
