I would check if "/home/paka/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log" is the relevant logfile.
(let things fail; then run:) date ls -l /home/paka/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
Also I suggest to try using xdm or lightdm to avoid the permission problem.
sudo update-alternatives --config default-displaymanager
I cannot reproduce your issue with gdm. Also it doesn't nvidia driver related at all.
I use sddm. I have changed to xdm per your suggestion
Ok. And this does work now?
xdm loads, started X as sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target get blank screen will attach Xorg.0.log
I have utilized "startx" for icewm for many years as <user>.
Hmm. No longer supported since more than 2 decades....
I will reinstall glibc-2.37.1 and initiate X as <root> shortly, must do so work right now.
We already did this. It just worked. This was https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208204#c9
