[Bug 717127] New: After upgrading to KDE 4.7.1 my whole desktop is black
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717127 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717127#c0 Summary: After upgrading to KDE 4.7.1 my whole desktop is black Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: szotsaki@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; Edition Next; hu) Presto/2.9.196 Version/12.00 I opened YaST and from that I upgraded from 4.7.0 to 4.7.1. After the installation with the exception of kdemultimedia4 all of my KDE packages were upgraded to 4.7.1. I logged out and restarted the X (Ctrl+Backspace). When I tried to log in back, my whole desktop was black but I saw the mouse pointer. I could execute a command, because Yakuake had started. Now, after a kwin --replace I'm able to see the plasma panel but I cannot click on anything (it doesn't have effect). I was able to start Opera and take a screenshot about this. After downgrading back to 4.7.0 this state remained. I don't know whether it's a packaging or a programming bug, but something made very wrong during the upgrade. Ps.: the applications cannot open a new window, so I cannot upload an image. Please, fix it asap, I cannot use my machine for work! Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

And we're not alone: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/4650... Panels are invisible, but still there. I have a Kickoff Application launcher on the bottom left, I can click there and then click in the menu that pops up (but you don't see it) and launch something from there. Really weird... Pressing ALT-SHIFT-F12 to turn off effects works to at least get something visible again. Seems KDE devs say it's a Qt or OpenSUSE problem. Seeing as you downgraded to 4.7.0 again: what about Qt, did you downgrade that one, as well? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I use KDE-R47. One day lost with game "what is wrong". Similar problems repeated after some months with other stuff. My question is: Why a new package in the repository always replace the old one? Why not stay there package with one previous version? In this case, "one step back" is impossible. The only thing I could do was: downgrade whole KDE from another repos. The first attempt was to downgrade to KDE-R46, unfortunately the same result. Next - downgrade to KDE-4.6.5 from from official repository. Unfortunately, very conservative with old-buggy KDE with old-buggy apps (for example krusader 2.0). The same problem also have other repos. I understand - that this problem is the volume of data in the repository. But the main "production" repository would be "one step back" to have had. OR my idea: add optional functionality to Zypper - save Packages T-1 to a local repository "one step back". The wolf is fed and goat lives. :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
