[Bug 856794] New: Unable to access ScanSnap S1500 via USB 2 or 3
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=856794 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=856794#c0 Summary: Unable to access ScanSnap S1500 via USB 2 or 3 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: digulla@hepe.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/31.0.1650.63 Safari/537.36 I'm trying to get my Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 to work again with openSUSE 13.1 (it worked perfectly fine with 12.3). There seems to be a bug in the xhci driver which makes the USB scanner unusable. Effect: I can see the scanner using sane-find-scanner found USB scanner (vendor=0x04c5, product=0x11a2) at libusb:003:015 but scanimage -L fails. Interestingly enough, it works once if I replug the scanner:
scanimage -L device `fujitsu:ScanSnap S1500:92567' is a FUJITSU ScanSnap S1500 scanner scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

I have now tried the same scanner with the same version of openSUSE and an old laptop. There, it works flawlessly.
So I'm pretty sure it's somehow connected to the kernel, USB stack and the Haswell chip set.
Can you get an usbmon trace of the working kernel and a trace of the failing kernel? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The only solution, I found so far, is adding a USB2 only extension card: http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/USB-2/Card/4-Port-PCI-Express-Low- Profile-High-Speed-USB-Card~PEXUSB4DP
Here still another working card: http://www.reichelt.de/index.html?ACTION=3;ARTICLE=76568;SEARCH=LCS-6080 Don't solve the actual problem, I know. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
