Instead using the internal ssd/hd I installed Suse on an 8GB-SDHC-card(internal via USB connected). So far so good - without problems. (don't talk about wlan and some other issues) But after shutdown/reboot the filesystem is corrupt. After (switching on again) and booting - manually fsck is needed. This is reproducible. The only way to avoid this problem is to shutdown the following way: init s sync mount -o remount,ro / mount -o remount,ro /home halt I think it is a problem with usb-storage-drivers. Maybe some greater delays between some shutdown steps could solve the problem, or the kernel should make sure that all is written before he is killing himself. Some of these only implement the bare minimum of the commands to get SCSI working. And even those have some strange interactions. I've come across a FireWire bridge who required an INQUIRY command after a TEST UNIT READY was sent, as the buffer was already pre-filled with the INQUIRY data. So in effect _every_ command sent after TEST UNIT READY returned the INQUIRY data, which lead to _really_ strange effects. So I wouldn't wonder if this would be the case here, too. And a quick googling for 'ENE UB6225' reveals that basically everyone has problems with this bridge. And you can't update the flash rom on it, too. So the best advise here is: sorry, broken hardware. The workaround provied above works (for me). Maybe I could also insert a simple sleep command there (/etc/init.d/boot.localfs). But it is also possible that the same issue comes up again with usb-stick-installations or hopefully not with ssd-harddisk-installations. We will see. The problem seems to be hardware (SSD) that missed this flush. IMHO we should try to avoid flushing for normal disks. Compare this with bug #229210 ans the patch sysvinit-2.86-hddown.patch .. here I check in C if a flush is required. The question is why this patch does not work for this type of SSD.
