[Bug 362850] New: KDE is not recognising a new USB MP3 player. No Popup window appears.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=362850 Summary: KDE is not recognising a new USB MP3 player. No Popup window appears. Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: puetz-tobias@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other Hi OpenSuse Team, I spend some time and tried to find a similar Problem on your database but had no success. I Have got a TEAC MP3 player which is not automatically recognised if plugged in to the PC . It is not auto mounted to /media. The system finds it and it is possible to mount the device manually. I have tried it with knoppix 5.1.0 which works alright. Observed the same problem with latest Ubuntu. With Opensuse 10.2 it was sometimes working. (means: I plugged the device in and out a several times and used different USB ports then suddenly the KDE window popped up.) This didn't work out under 10.3. Same Problem with OpenSuse 10.3 on my notebook (32bit) and desktop PC (x86-64). many thanks in advance for taking care of this minor problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From reading the SCSI spec it seems that having the valid bit 0 (0x70 checked by scsi_sense_valid) should does not invalidate the ASC or ASQ. [See page 37 of spc4r02.pdf]. It seems to only invalidate the INFORMATION field.
1) Why does media_not_present skip checking asc and asq if !scsi_sense_valid? 2) Can skipping the sense_valid check in sd.c:1101 (SL103_BRANCH) be done safely? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If the commit + revert happen in the same batch, this would be NOP, but I would pick it up anyway. The update from November contains this changes entry: * Don Okt 30 2008 - oneukum@suse.de - patches.fixes/sd_liberal_28_sense_invalid.diff: fix medium presence misdetection in usb storage device (bnc#362850). The update released today contains this changes entry: * Don Dez 18 2008 - oneukum@suse.de - patches.fixes/revert_sd_asc_28_liberal_check.diff: revert sd_asc_28_liberal_check.diff. (bnc#362850) So your patch was in the 2.6.16.60-0.33 kernel update released in November, but is reverted with the update released today. About making it better ... Not sure. Wait until user confirms it is working? No idea.
