[Bug 421923] New: Missing dep for resmgr (in aaa_base)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421923 Summary: Missing dep for resmgr (in aaa_base) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lemrichard@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- It is possible to remove the RPM resmgr without having the system complaining about this component being necessary. The net effet is that is it no longer possible to have a local login without having a message informing the user that an unknown module failed (it is a pam error). The solution might be to add a dependency to aaa_base if this component should not be removed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is necessary to chroot from the rescuecd to fix the problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421923 User lemrichard@yahoo.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421923#c4 --- Comment #4 from Richard Lemay <lemrichard@yahoo.com> 2008-09-02 21:30:44 MDT --- The pam module that fails is pam_resmgr as reported in the syslog file: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_resmgr.so): /lib/security/pam_resmgr.so In fact, I did some research and I now believe the problem is not with a missing dependency in aaa_base, but simply a bug in resmgr uninstallation script. I think it simply failed to remove the pam_resmgr.so entry and that caused the local login failure. The base system doesn't really seem to need resmgr since it is possible to login via ssh without resmgr installed. Of course, my knowledge of the inner working of the OpenSUSE base system is rather limited, so I might be wrong on this... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is no facility that adds or removes it ie resmgr is a base package that is not supposed to be removed. This will be changed for openSUSE 11.1 though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would at least hint that the package is necessary. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
