[Bug 695423] New: 2.6.39-30 tumbleweed kernel network stack dies when trying to ssh
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695423 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695423#c0 Summary: 2.6.39-30 tumbleweed kernel network stack dies when trying to ssh Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: roeland@linux-it.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 after I installed 2.6.39-30, I can ping a system; whenever I start ssh to the server I get: (using -vvv) debug1: channel 0: open confirm rwindow 0 rmax 32768 and ssh sits there forever. Using an incorrect passwd will give the pass prompt again. When this hang occurs, icmp dies and on the local console (vnc) DNS doesn't work anymore; only a restart will help, until I again try to ssh into the system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot system 2.start ping to system --- runs fine 3.ssh to system and after passwd given, ssh waits forever and icmp et al dies Actual Results: ssh hangs and icmp dies. Expected Results: login should be OK and icmp still working/me joins that club\ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you switch to the 10th (or whatever is logging) console before doing ssh to the machine? I guess, the kernel oopses. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since the local network stack works fine, I would assune it would be syslogged or am I dead wrong here? (and I checked logs; nothng of that all) I keep this NEEDINFO set until I have VNC available to check for eventuual logging -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also are there any replies from the machine (check e.g. with tcpdump or wireshark) or the link is completely dead? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At that time. icmp replies are stopped. On the vnc console I could ping to it's own network address -- that was OK; However, pinging to anythong outside failed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However, if I started a test download from within the vnc console on the system and I started shh -- it died again when I received open confirm rwindow 0 rmax 32768. Please re-test with openSUSE 12.1 or openSUSE RC2+ and re-open with an updated Product if you still encounter your issue.
