The screen showed that it hung during checking for new mail. The problem is it could not be killed by signal 9 SIGKILL. The output of ps -Alf may be helpful for finding the cause of problem: 1 D pavel 10034 1 0 80 0 - 67273 utimes 21:28 ? 00:00:00 kontact So it shows that the process was in some uninterruptible sleep. Since it was uninterruptible, chances are it was in a syscall. If it happens again I will capture parameters passed to non-returning syscall. But I think the ps output I copied to the bug description should be sufficient. It says that kontact was asleep in the utimes() syscall. Thus I think this hang is a kernel / file system problem and not a fault of kontact/kmail. Even with wrong arguments passed, the utimes() should return. I use reiserfs for both home and root partition.
