[Bug 821848] New: [pulseaudio] 5.1 surround always falls back to stereo
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=821848 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=821848#c0 Summary: [pulseaudio] 5.1 surround always falls back to stereo Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: magist3r@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=541356) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=541356) alsa-info.log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 I have Intel HDA sound card and 5.1 sound system. 5.1 sound works fine with pulseaudio, but when I run new app that uses sound I have only stereo from it. So I need to go in KDE settings (or in pulseaudio volume control) and toggle 5.1 surround output (just take any other option, i.e. "Analog stereo duplex", and then again "5.1 surround sound"). After that 5.1 works again. So after reboot I have to toggle 5.1 too. Just for clarify: in pulseaudio settings I always have "5.1 surround sound". All info about my system in the attachment. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run program that uses sound (Amarok) -> only stereo. 2. Toggle 5.1 surround sound in settings -> 5.1 3. Run another program that uses sound -> only stereo in this program. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think this is pulseaudio related bug, but I'm not sure. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If it happens, the problem is likely in the level of PA. If it happens only in KDE, it's rather an issue in KDE, typically in phonon. Could you check it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In the command line level, something like "pacmd set-default-sink XXXX" could work. I don't know whether the preference dialog (or in settings menu) has a similar item. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
