Some mail servers send 2 headers ("AUTH " and "AUTH=") after EHLO, so after issuing STARTTLS all AUTH lines are ignored and no authentication will be performed. The odd workaround is disabling TLS for such servers. Sendmail knows about the problem and offers a small patch which should be applied to the openSUSE-build.
