[Bug 231158] New: Can't install with boot floppies
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231158 Summary: Can't install with boot floppies Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: snwint@novell.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I tried to install 10.2 on a friend's system using boot floppies (images from Factory, dated Dec 6). Unfortunately, all I got was a set of error codes :-( I'll attach a screen photo showing all the output. Sidenotes: - Booting from CD also didn't work (tested CD1 and CD2) because of problems with the SCSI CD drive - unfortunately there was no useful error message, just something like "can't boot". - I finally installed a 8.2 minimal system (8.2 boot floppies worked) and added the 10.2 installer to grub - this way worked to install 10.2. - If you need more information, it might take some time because I have to forward your requests - but providing information and testing is possible. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The floppy images are broken (files are put on them in the wrong order). I've submitted a fixed installation-images package (9.43) that builds correct floppy images. Andreas, can you please take care that the new floppies make it onto the public ftp tree? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Andreas, can you please take care that the new floppies make it onto the public ftp tree?
(In reply to comment #4 from Andreas Jaeger)
Ok, done.
I just searched the Factory inst-source/boot directory - there are *no* prebuild floppy images, only the mkbootdisk script :-( Please really upload the latest set of boot floppies... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please check: [...]/distribution/10.2/repo/oss/boot/i386/floppy/
Both contain the files.
For 10.2, yes. However, there are no floppy images for _Factory_ - http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/boot/i3... has no "floppy" directory. (Floppy images for Factory existed last december, see initial comment.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
