https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716017 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716017#c0 Summary: Choosing Dutch on the first page of the installation does not include localization files to be installed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Milestone 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: f.de.kruijf@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0 After installation of openSUSE 12.1 M5 and entering the KDE environment, I noticed a lot of English still being present. After inspection of the installed packages, I noticed that a lot of the localization packages were not installed. Selecting Languages in the pull down menu of View in YaST Software Management I found that nl was not activated. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. I find this major problem that should be fixed in the next Milestone. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I went all the way till logging into the generated account, setting up the wireless connection and starting YaST->Software management, which pulled in the repositories of 12.1 M5. The result was the same. So the conclusion that there is a difference between choosing Dutch on the first screen or the second screen does not hold. Still there is the fact that the Dutch translations for KDE4 are not installed. I search for these packages and I found that they are not on the DVD, but they need to be pulled in from the Oss repository. This does not work during installation because of bug#716013 and/or bug#716652 which prevent the network from working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So now the test of the network connection in that phase did succeed. However now also only yast2-trans-nl was the only Dutch translation file in the system. After logging in into KDE I started YaST->Software Management and activated nl in View->Languages. Only a few packages were included to be installed, not even the kde4 language packages. So I included them by hand. Any idea why the packages were not installed?
Well, the answer is clear from comments 7-8: the packages were not available. The question is, if after adding community sources, there should be automatic installation of language support... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is unfortunate that Dutch support is not on DVD. I see 2 correct solutions here: 1. include language add-on from the beginning of the installation: see Extra Languages at http://software.opensuse.org/developer/en (it is possible to add it as network source) 2. after you have added community repositories, run either YaST language or YaST software installation and select Dutch in it; once the packages are available, they should get installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This was per default set to TRUE. Changing languages (also hardware) changes the recommendations of installed packages. As this is per default ignored, nothing happens if you select Dutch. If you turn off the option in the pulldown menu, dutch packages even for already installed software should get selected, as you select the language.
