how would a "successful migration" would look like ? I created a new firefox profile for testing and I logged into two different web pages. then I quit firefox (no save) and restarted. for both pages the login data was not offered directly. clicking into the username input fields (only) the correct login name was displayed, but selecting this username did not add the password. in Edit -> Preferences -> Securiry -> Saves Passwords... the list again is completely empty :-( so even with a clean new profile firefox passwords just don't work (only for me?) for referece here is the list of installed versions since I did a "zypper update" in the mean time: harald > rpm -qa | grep -i mozilla MozillaFirefox-3.0.3-5.1 mozilla-nspr-4.7.1-20.42 mozilla-nspr-32bit-4.7.1-20.41 MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE-3.0.3-2.1 mozilla-xulrunner181-32bit-1.8.1.17-2.1 mozilla-nss-tools-3.12.0-54.7 mozilla-nss-3.12.0-54.7 mozilla-nss-32bit-3.12.0-54.5 mozilla-xulrunner190-1.9.0.3-4.2 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-1.9.0.3-4.2 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You need to create the .db files in the profile dir using the old, unpatched xulrunner package (or the one shipped as an update, with the patch removed). It doesn't have to be a "clean" profile dir. You can use an old profile dir even if it's been "migrated". In any case, I just submitted an updated nss-shared-helper package that will only perform the migration if the environment variable NSS_USE_SHARED_DB is set. This variable will not be set by default, so most users will not be migrated. The reason for this is that most home users have no use for this feature, and it would interfere with users' ability to run multiple distros from the same home dir (mixing apps with and without the new DB code). That sounds quite unlikely given that I did all my testing on both 32 and 64bit. Sorry, this bug is cluttered with a lot of incomplete descriptions so I can only really rely on symptoms I see myself for most of them. So please everybody. This bug is basically resolved when all changes done are hitting Factory very soon because the feature is disabled by default then. We are still very interested in fixing all the issues which are introduced by enabling that feature explicitely. I volunteer to guide people through the different workarounds if they are interested by private mail.
