[Bug 729984] New: Brasero not able to burn CD's
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=729984 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=729984#c0 Summary: Brasero not able to burn CD's Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: RBrownCCB@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Well this is embarrassing - looks like Brasero in 12.1 has managed to slip through without any way of burning CD's If you try and burn a CD, Brasero tries to auto-install the packages for cdrecord - unfortunately CD record is not available in 12.1 so the process fails and the user is left with no way of burning to CD Media in the GNOME desktop Manually installing Wodin appears to be a perfectly valid workaround So, to fix this issue I guess we have 2 approaches a) Patch Brasero so it looks to autoinstall wodin instead of cdrecord b) Change Brasero so wodin is a requirement. Thoughts? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wodim is nearly a dead way, not really maintained, for example it can't write Blu-Ray cdrecord (the true one, from Joerg) is the best tool, without discussion, but was time ago rejected for alleged licence problems Joerg always denied. you can find cdrecord for any openSUSE searching in the home OBS folders (in obs, tick the "search in home project", the only option of advanced search) jdd -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=729984 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=729984#c2 --- Comment #2 from Richard Brown <RBrownCCB@opensuse.org> 2011-11-11 23:28:34 UTC --- Hi jdd, thanks for the comment but I'm pretty sure I'm approaching this from the correct way :) To clarify, brasero is able to burn data DVD's without issue When user attempts to burn to a CD-R or CD-RW, brasero objects and tries to autoinstall cdrecord cdrecord is not available, so from the user experience point of view, they get a big nasty error and aren't able to burn their CD I don't particualy care about which is 'best' and which we should or should not be including in the distribution. I'm looking to make sure the user experience for our GNOME users, using the default burn tool we've shipped with 12.1, is as good as humanly possible, hence my 2 suggestions, both based around my experience that wodim is available in our repos, trivial to install, and picked up by brasero. Telling our users to "add something from a home project" isn't a viable option here for fixing this bug which is likely to hit many GNOME users. I'm open to any alternative viable suggestions though -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If not, may be a config problem? (I use kb) or a bug how can you write a dvd if you don't have any cdrecord? Wodim's cdrkit-cdrtools-compat rpm supplies links to replace cdrtools's binaries specifically to allow either package to be used. I've used brasero with both packages installed with no ill effect. I've changed the requirements to : # We need cdrecord to burn CDs (bnc#729984) This can be provided by either wodim or cdrtools Requires: /usr/bin/cdrecord Requires: /usr/bin/mkisofs Requires: /usr/bin/readcd # cdrkit-cdrtools-compat or cdrtools provide cdda2wav Requires: /usr/bin/cdda2wav Leaving the reference to this bug. Unfortunately 12.1 to 12.3 users won't be able to use brasero with cdrtools unless they accept to break the requirement. K3b fortunately uses the above method of requiring the cd writing binaries. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
