https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=689336 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=689336#c0 Summary: compaq dc 7100, intel 915g sart only in failsafe mode Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jdd@dodin.org QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 I install openSUSE on a lot of compaq desktop dc 7100 SFF (PIV 5125Mo ram) The display is intel 915 g It don't start with the normal openSUSE 11.4 entry. It starts perfectly with the failsafe entry. The problem come after the X start, just after the first blink of the screen. The computer stop completely responding (no mouse, no keyboard). I couldn't figure out what option of failsafe is relevant because when I try to remove one, most of the time X don't start at all. after start, fbdev is used for 2D and swrast launched (but noted: no 3D) in sysinfo:/ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. as a side note, it could be better to reboot the first time (during install) in failsafe. For the install it's perfectly ok and at least the install complete is most situations. It's easier to fix problems after, when install is over -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know if it's the same bug as the one I had when opening this. I changed (on the test computer) the drives, so it's not exactly the same. What I could discover is that with the new config (1Gb ram, two sata drives), the computer boot crashes at the "creating device nodes with udev" - it may be simply very long, it's always very long, but I waited 15 minutes at least :-). Then. The computer boots perfectly well with the parameter "nosmp" added by hand (or in menu.lst). The computer processor is a P IV HT -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
