[Bug 414156] New: [Feature-request] XRandr extension for virtual resolution change on-the-fly
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=414156 Summary: [Feature-request] XRandr extension for virtual resolution change on-the-fly Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: al4321@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Hi All, Currently physical X server resolution can be changed on-the-fly using Xrandr extension. Unfortunately the virtual resolution is still hard coded in the xorg config file, and cannot be changed without full X server restart. It would be really good, if virtual resolution could be changed on the fly too. -Technologov, 2.8.2008. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At least on intel (945GM) you're running into all kind of problems with such a setting. DRI, Tiling, FramebufferCompression gets disabled. In some more detail:
(EE) intel(0): Cannot support DRI with frame buffer width > 2048.
Seems to be a limit on Intel series < 965. Need to verify this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE is still 2048 on 965 (not sure if this a hardware or driver limitation), so at least compiz wouldn't work with Virtual x values > 2048. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Should be possible to set this to 4096 instead. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2008-April/034960.html I'll give the patch a try. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
