The install went fine till the boot ... I got the message "error: no such device /efi/boot/fallback.efi" Here is the configuration : disk0 2TB will be dedicated almost 100% to Linux [ last 100GB for windows ] in disk managemet it is GPT disk1 128GB SDD EFI System Partiton 260 MB reserved 16 MB C: 82 GB F: 36 GB WINRE A) Via BIOS changed the boot order to CD then OS B) Using a bootable CD of opensuse leap 15.0 NW , I tried a minimal install with /dev/sda1 / partition /dev/sda2 /home partiton , and /dev/sda3 swap partition. Thw Windows partitions are on /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 EFI System Partition /dev/sdb2 C: /dev/sdb3 F: /dev/sdb4 WINRE Because I do not know btrfs I selected ext4 [ for / and /home] , The install went fine and I saw the message that bthe boot loader was installed. Then , the icon that the boot will follow .... I got the 1st icon of install : Boot from HardDisk Installation More ... I selected Boot from HD .... then I got the message error: no such device /efi/boot/fallback.efi press enter to continue ..... put me back on the above describec icon . C) Go to Windows and with Disk Manager remove the / /home swap partitions Then try again and pay attention at install messages : Language Englist Test keyboard ok KDE with Plasma "partitionomg" Delete GPT for /dev/sda Create GPT for /dev/sda Create partition /dev/sda1 for / create partition /dev/sda 2 for /fomr create partition /dev/sda4 for swap The only thing edited were the sizes . Try again .... the same issue . It seems that I done something wrong ..... Could you please tell/help me on getting the linus installed : 1. do I need an EFI partition on /dev/sda if so, how could I get it created ? 2. is the ESP [ /dev/sdb1 ] affected by the 1st/2nd installs if so, could be ESP fixed ? 3. Can switch from btrfs / xfs to ext4 ? 4. Do I need a /boot partition ? 5. Partitions order /boot_efi [ ESP or newly created ] / /boot /var /tmp /opt /svr swap /home /root 6.Should I have to get /dev/sda initialized ? Could you please answer the above questions and comment/recommend what would be the best approach . As far as windows is concerned .... it will be used very rarely . Thank you in advance . http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127765 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127765#c2 --- Comment #2 from Nick Dordea <ndordea@gmail.com> --- Greetings , A new minimal install : 1. avoid mounting /dev/sdb2 as /boot/efi 2. create /dev/sda1 as EFI Sytem Partition mount point /boot/efi everyting else as reported initially . 1. At boot time [ with the DC in cd drive] linux starts Different boots abailable : opensuse 15.0 opensuse recover windows select opensuse 15 , it starts fine . The only issue is that without the install-CD in drive, the system boots directly in Windows . The Linux boot loader says Detect foreign OS and the option "hid the menu" is not checked out . How could I fix this issue ? For the time being I'm going to keep the install CD in the CD-drive . Thanks, Nick -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127765 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127765#c4 --- Comment #4 from Nick Dordea <ndordea@gmail.com> --- Hello Stefan, A) Unfortunately I did not get any other messages . I was not able to start opensuse so I did not have access to yast2 messages . However as I said on my comment#2 I tried a new install in which I did not mounted /dev/sdb2 as /boot/efi [ even if the install indicated that ] I created a new partition /dev/sda1 1GB as EFI Boot Partition formatted as FAT and mounted as /boot/efi . It worked . opensuse leap 15.0 started nicely [ via Boot from Harddisk ] . Then I tried to boot without the install CD present . The boot went directly to Windows. So today I created a usb bootable usb based on opensuse-15-0_NETWORK_...iso [ via a windows 10 freebie ] . I keep that usb in one port and I can boot opensue/windows . I do not know how to avoid the install CD or usb to boot in linux. It is not big deal .... I believe that , if the machine has more than one disk, the install should not tell the user to mount other ESP as /boot/efi . I wonder if the install tells the user that there is another ESP [ in my case associated with windows ] . It that one is created by Linux ... use it otherwise tell the user to create a new one on "linux" disk . Maybe my assumption is wrong, but creating a EFI partition via linux helped me. ==================== B). Today I discovered that the wifi connection is not defined/started . Yast2 hardware reports RTL8822BE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wifi Adaper . I tried to install it manually but I do not know the Kernel driver associated with this adapter. The only info found relative to rtl8822 is in /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8822befw.bin other 3 enttries are in /lib/firmware/rtl-bt/rtl8822b_config.bin rtl8822b_fw.bin rtl8822cu-fw.bin Is it possible to try with 2t2800pci.ko which is used by my old machine ? Should I open a new ticket for this wifi issue ======================== Thank you very much for looking into this issue.
