[Bug 396030] New: java browser plugins should conflict
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396030 Summary: java browser plugins should conflict Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Java AssignedTo: bnc-team-java@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin.schlander@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I was experimenting with different versions of java on my homebank. Firefox kept crashing. I found out it was caused by both java-1_5_0-sun-plugin and java-1_6_0-sun-plugin being installed at the same time. To avoid this the packages should conflict. If the free software plugins for 1.6 and 1.7 don't already conflict with the other plugins, they prolly should too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What's the URL of the homebanking, where's the log from Firefox crash, where's the output of the about:plugins, etc? But the plugins are installed in separated locations and managed by update-alternatives system, so the Firefox can use only one. But it migth be some bug in this, so I need your help to fix this. For the first time, can you install both of the Java plugins and check the Sun's demo applets (for example from the http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/index.html)? If it still crashing, please type me an outputs of these commands: - rpm -qa | grep java - /usr/sbin/update-alteratives --display java - /usr/sbin/update-alteratives --display javaplugin - ls -lh /usr/lib(64)*/browser-plugins/ * and are you using the 64bit or 32bit system? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I figured it was a bug that it was even possible to have more plugins installed at the same time, and thus didn't bother with the details. Trying to reproduce now on 11.0 final x86_64, using 32-bit FF 3.0 from the OBS repo. Now about:plugins doesn't report both plugins, I'm almost certain it did before, it now only reports Java 1.6. Firefox still crashes (locks up, 100% cpu, until I kill it) on my homebank applet. But it's now clear that the crash isn't caused by both plugins being installed, because this happens when only using 1.6 aswell. So it's an issue with Sun Java 1.6, not an issue with having both plugins installed. The applet is here: https://web40.prod.bec.dk/signon/servlet/Signon?_Or=_RYy8Z*2jJjhe42mMWTYH*77RiCVRz0xph1K4hOpZn*1cmQe9lkMfDOMOuXi014BPuuDc-GVwmBYG6qe9j0KJV0WrGSrqHjVTvfbSmzwIdb__&_Wp=No The applets on your link to java.com don't cause any problems, whether having both plugins or only 1.6 installed. Strangely the crash doesn't happen on my x86 laptop, with Sun Java 1.6. But for some reason I've always had different behaviour with 32-bit sun java 1.6 + 32-bit firefox, depending on whether I ran it on x86 system or x86_64 system - with regards to my home banking. Closing bug as invalid. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
