[Bug 547734] New: Conflicting keyboard shortcut for gnome-do and main-menu
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=547734 Summary: Conflicting keyboard shortcut for gnome-do and main-menu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-3.2 Firefox/3.5.3 The keyboard shortcut for the gnome-main-menu is the windows key (meta) and for bringing up gnome-do is windows-key+space. Problem is though that as soon as you press the windows key the main-menu shows up and interferes with gnome-do's interface. Since the main-menu showing up on pressing the win-key seems to be useful to those switching over from the other side, it might be reasonable to change gnome-do's keyboard shortcut. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Hold windows-key+space Actual Results: Main-menu appears (and also possible gnome-do hidden behind it) Expected Results: gnome-do/main-menu should not have a conflicting shortcut button -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Or you could just remove gnome-main-menu from your panel, since gnome-do obsoletes it. ;-) But yeah, this is annoying, it would be nice if gnome-main-menu could capture super without blocking super-space, but I'm not sure if that's possible (gnome-shell has the same issue). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unless this is fixed, any software that uses the super key will be made unusable due to the "slab" popping up and removing focus from the app. Here's a better idea - regress back to the old "alt-f1" days (although that shortcut still works) and have a balloon tip above the "computer" button reading "Press Alt and F1 together, or click 'Computer' to open computer menu". -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm mass-closing gnome-main-menu/slab bugs: gnome-main-menu has gone unmaintained upstream because it's not usable in GNOME 3, and is not shipped since 12.1. I don't expect any maintenance updates for it in 11.4 either. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
