With help from darix, I know remove the existing /usr/bin/chromium and then have update-alternatives create the correct link. I am using the update-alternatives to have an easier way to switching between the password stores. The detect method will be used when only the chromium package will be installed. If the chromium-desktop-kde or chromium-desktop-gnome package is installed the password store will be changed to respectively kwallet or gnome-keyring. Newer releases of Chromium will now come from a different repo and the package will be removed from the contrib repo as that it is the target to submit the package to Factory.
