What I found out is that only when you are inside screen (/usr/bin/screen) that entering CONTENTS.CPIO does not work. The /usr/share/mc/extfs/rpm also works inside screen. Another thing also related to screen, is that once inside, you cannot use Ctrl-O (in mc) to switch between mc and the subshell.
