Screenshot showing active / available connections
I have a similar problem (I'm using OpenSuse 13.2 beta). If the system
connection is setup to connect automatically, network manager often connects to
eth0(vmnet1) or eth0(vmnet8) instead of eth0(em1). As a result, ethernet is not
working.
The manual connection setup is a bit tedious, if many (wireless) connections
are available.
