[Bug 227575] New: IDE drive fails during startup
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227575 Summary: IDE drive fails during startup Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: u.papendick@lambdalogic.de QAContact: qa@suse.de On a Dell Latitude 410 the startup of the freshly updated system fails in runlevel 0 which is indicated in the boot log by IDE failed DMA disabled. This happens every second boot or sometimes more often. Not seen this while using 10.1 since its release. Remark: The installation procedure was only possible by switching off apic and acpi. The installation left the acpi and ide dma kernel switches off for the normal init. I switched them on later. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227575 ------- Comment #9 from markgray+to-suse@puck.nac.net 2007-01-19 09:14 MST ------- I have my suspicions that some computers might require idebus= (some value) I say this because I have a computer which has the same problem using the SUSE-10.2 default kernel (even with safe settings) but the kernel.org 2.6.19.1 kernel works perfectly. One difference between the two is that the kernel.org kernel gives a warning during boot: ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx And the SUSE-10.2 kernel gives no such warning before failing to boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If this is about wrong irq assignment this is probably a duplicate of bug #232013 Please mark it as such then, Andi will take of it the next days. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
