[Bug 1196582] New: static IP address configuration not transferred from linuxrc to installed system
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1196582 Bug ID: 1196582 Summary: static IP address configuration not transferred from linuxrc to installed system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: azouhr@opensuse.org QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com CC: ada.lovelace@gmx.de, ihno@suse.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- When using a static IP address by means of kernel parameters during the installation, linuxrc and the installer is started normal. However, after the system is booted, the static address is not used anymore in the running system. The reason is, that in linuxrc, wicked is used with the configuration files /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-* ifroute-* ... The wicked configuration files are copied to the running system, where they are ignored by NetworkManager. Network Manager instead tries to use dhcp, but fails if dhcp is not available in the environment. This leads for example to openqa failing the s390x installations https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/overview?distri=opensuse&version=Tumbleweed&build=20220226&groupid=34 This issue is not limited to s390x, but to all environments where static ip addresses are used during installation. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #3 from Berthold Gunreben
Created attachment 856657 [details] YaST log (gzipped)
I'm attaching the (only) YaST log as found in openQA, but please next time, attach the whole /var/log/YaST directory. The reason is that openQA tests are usually deleted after some time, but Bugzilla attachments stay. We can't guarantee that we really do something about bugs before tests get deleted.
sorry, I was about to attach the files. I just did not think that the logs can help, because that is not a malfunctioning of the software, but a design issue. If you need the logs, just write me a note. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
