[Bug 1188728] New: external usb cd/dvd disc drive continually ejects once it is opened
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1188728 Bug ID: 1188728 Summary: external usb cd/dvd disc drive continually ejects once it is opened Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: iqgrande@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Greetings: I have an external Pioneer Blu-ray Drive that I have plugged into a USB port. If I press the "eject" button on it, it will open. However, when I close it, then it will continue to immediately eject. This renders the drive unusable while in openSUSE Tumbleweed. I have some additional notes below. Thank you for any insight you can provide. * If I turn the computer off with it ejected, insert a disk, close it, and then turn the computer on, it will appropriately mount the disk within Tumbleweed. * Things work fine on the same system when within Windows 10. * It used to also work fine when I was running Linux Mint 19.* (I upgraded 7 months ago and this was the first time I was going to use it). * I am not sure how to check the log files for additional information from this since it would appear they are stored via System-D stuff which I haven't learned yet. I have what I could figure out from the log files below. {{{ # journalctl -b /dev/sr0 -- Journal begins at Sat 2021-01-02 16:35:39 MST, ends at Mon 2021-07-26 23:06:24 MDT. -- Jul 26 16:45:37 babeltumble kernel: pci 0000:00:14.0: [8086:a2af] type 00 class 0x0c0330 Jul 26 16:45:37 babeltumble kernel: pci 0000:00:14.0: reg 0x10: [mem 0xf7310000-0xf731ffff 64bit] Jul 26 16:45:37 babeltumble kernel: pci 0000:00:14.0: PME# supported from D3hot D3cold Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI Host Controller Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus num> Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: hcc params 0x200077c1 hci version 0x100 > Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI Host Controller Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: new USB bus registered, assigned bus num> Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Host supports USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: usb usb2: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0003, > Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: usb usb2: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumbe> Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: usb usb2: Product: xHCI Host Controller Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: usb usb2: Manufacturer: Linux 5.13.4-1-default xhci-hcd Jul 26 16:45:38 babeltumble kernel: usb usb2: SerialNumber: 0000:00:14.0 Jul 26 22:45:40 babeltumble kernel: usb 2-8: new SuperSpeed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd Jul 26 22:45:40 babeltumble kernel: usb 2-8: LPM exit latency is zeroed, disabling LPM. Greetings: I tried the "OBS home:tiwai:kernel:5.12 repo" kernel (installed via `rpm -ivh --oldpackage`). I wasn't able to boot to a graphical desktop however I could in the console. After I logged in on the console, I opened the disk drive and closed it and it was able to stay closed. This seems to indicate that the issue wasn't present in 5.12. So, then I tried the "test kernel in OBS home:tiwai:bsc1188767 repo". I booted to a console (couldn't get to a graphical login), opened the tray and was able to close it. This seems to also suggest that the issue is fixed within the test kernel. I will post my log files from installing each of the kernels in case they are helpful. I also noticed that openSUSE TW updated to 5.13.5 since I last upgraded so I'll do the update and report if the problem persists there, too. Thank you for your help with this. I was mistaken; TW didn't update to 5.13.5 so I cannot post info for that. If it does before this ticket is resolved, I'll be sure to post info, though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
