[Bug 732747] New: kded4 crashes at every login to KDE Plasma, but not when logging in to Gnome
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732747#c0 Summary: kded4 crashes at every login to KDE Plasma, but not when logging in to Gnome Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: antoine.mechelynck@belgacom.net QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: wstephenson@suse.com Depends on: 725962 Found By: Community User Blocker: --- Tony Mechelynck <antoine.mechelynck@belgacom.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flag| |SHIP_STOPPER? I see kded4 crash at every startup after logging in to "KDE Plasma desktop" but never when logging in to the "Gnome" window manager. (My X11 login manager is kdm) This bug prevents the crash handler from reporting crashes to KDE. AFAIK, there is no openSUSE 12.1 Update-Test repository yet. My kdelibs4 (and -debuginfo) packages are at version 4.7.2-5.2.2 (latest changelog entry 2011-10-19). bluedevil (with -debuginfo and -lang) version 1.2.2-1.2.2 including change "2011-10-27 14:00 by wstephenson", see bug 725962 comment #14 I see kdelibs4 4.7.2-5.11.1 and bluedevil 1.2.2-1.4.2 at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Stable/openSUSE_12.1/ — would they fix this crash? Here's my latest case, Documents/kded4-20111125-073251.kcrash (time UTC+1): Application: kded4 ($Id$) KDE Platform Version: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5" Qt Version: 4.7.4 Operating System: Linux 3.1.0-1.2-desktop x86_64 Distribution: "openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64)" -- Information about the crash: logging in to KDE plasma desktop The crash can be reproduced every time. Sorry for the late response. Here's what I'm now doing: 1. Enable upstream repositories "Core" and "Extra" (but not "Unstable Playground") for KDE release 48 (openSUSE 12.1) as said on that wiki page 2. In YaST Software Management, under "RPM Groups", hunt for what concerns KDE, check "Versions" tab for whatever is installed (even if the line is in black with no "(Available)" version in the list of packages), select the version (if any) for the new repo, and if a conflict dialog pops up, accept the update with vendor change from openSUSE to obs://build.opensuse.org/KDE 3. After I find them all, I'll "Accept" the changes in YaST, reboot, and then proceed to the testing by changing the "Display Manager" and "Window Manager" this way and that in YaST under "etc/sysconfig Editor". I'm intentionally not yet removing NEEDINFO status: that will be after I report the test results. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is a different bug than the present one. He asked me to try version 4.9.3 of KDE instead of the 4.8.5 that was shipped with my SUSE12.2. and/or version Plasmoid Network manager 0.9.0.3 instead of the 0.9.0.2 in SUSE12.2. For the moment I don't have time to follow that through but I'll check the repositories early next week and see if it helps.
