This will occur exactly when you install the application by name. Despite the presence or absence of 'hardware devices' you do not expect to receive an error response telling you that directory/files are missing. The application does not even get to start to find anything due error response. If you look at the applications Dependence file when you install from software management the above dependent file are shown. Even IF you install the dependant files manually, the application errors out indicating missing directory/file. I cannot understand why you cannot see this on your own PC, as part of verifying the bug would indicate you have installed this application and can see exactly what I see - Its 100% re-producible. The same is true for this sister bug. Same error response. The issue is that the application, as installed, does NOT execute. The presence of the 'hardware device is not an issue when the application cannot even execute and it is not usable in current form. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259984 kkeil@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|Normal |Enhancement Status|NEW |ASSIGNED ------- Comment #6 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-05-06 04:10 MST ------- OK I begin to understand your issue. I never come to the idea to install tools, for which I do not have the required hardware. The problem with these tools is: The tool cannot do anything usefull without having access to /dev/capi20. /dev/capi20 is only here if: 1. You have the hardware 2. The driver for the hardware was installed 3. The driver was loaded and initialized The tool itself is running (You see the icon in the panel) and with the "CAPI info" menu you get the info, that the device file is missing. Maybe what you want is a better error message, like: "/dev/capi20 is missing" "It seems that you do not have any hardware installed needed by this tool" Correct ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259984 ------- Comment #7 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2007-05-06 11:24 MST ------- The above file dependencies need correcting - These do not install with the application by name - You get a little further then in very increased functionality found. The /dev/capi20 directory in only created when you install developer tools. Until further testing can be done I.E plug a USB Modem into the back we will not know, however I suspect the application is far from finished and lacks many things especially as it can see all the files in /dev/capi are installed with development packages. Gut feeling is both application have missing code which should lead to discovery of the device. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259984 kkeil@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|ASSIGNED |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #8 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-05-07 04:15 MST ------- NO. /dev/capi20 is not a directory it is a device node, created from the kernel via udev, if a CAPI ISDN/ADSL device registered. So here are no dependencies are missing (maybe you can say that a dependency from installed HW is missing, but such things are not handled now). Again the application works as expected, it says that here is no /dev/capi device node - yes this could be enhanced to give a more detailed explanation, but this is not a bug at all. So simple please do not install tools which are supposed to need special HW, if you do not have this HW. If some package will create a directory /dev/capi20 this would be a real bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
