[Bug 759812] New: chromium: html5 videos (youtube/vimeo) do not play in chromium 20.0.1119.0
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=759812 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=759812#c0 Summary: chromium: html5 videos (youtube/vimeo) do not play in chromium 20.0.1119.0 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: veniastra@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=488760) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=488760) Output from chrome://version (inside chromium) User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/536.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1119.0 Safari/536.9 SUSE/20.0.1119.0 Since switching to the lastest chromium version 20.0.1119.0 from the network:chromium repository, chromium does not play html5 videos on youtube & vimeo. On vimeo, the player just states "an error occured", on youtube, the player loads the loading animation without ever playing anything. Starting chromium from console yields the following messages: sh-4.2$ chromium [22542:22573:101797148528:ERROR:diagnostic_error_delegate.h(31)] sqlite error 11, errno 0: database disk image is malformed [22542:22573:101804753155:ERROR:diagnostic_error_delegate.h(31)] sqlite error 11, errno 0: database disk image is malformed [22542:22573:101820120610:ERROR:diagnostic_error_delegate.h(31)] sqlite error 11, errno 0: database disk image is malformed A new line is added each time a new website is opened (this holds true for arbitrary websites, not just youtube/vimeo), as well as every now and then when chromium writes to sqlite, I assume. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to a website with a html5 player 2. Click play Actual Results: Error message and/or video doesn't play Expected Results: Video loads and plays This is chromium 20.0.1119.0-159.1 on a fully up-to-date Tumbleweed x86_64 and the problem only started surfacing after updating to the 20.0.1119.0 builds that fixed the broken GUI encountered before. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried a couple of times to make sure that it was playing the html5 version and not the flash version. However there are some changes on my system: 1) I am running a later build of Chromium (20.0.1123) 2) I am running openSUSE:Factory 3) I am running with chromium-ffmpeg version 20.0.1123. Peter, can you indicate which version of chromium-ffmpeg you are running with ? If this is lower than the indicated version, then please try to upgrade from Packman. sh-4.2$ rpm -q chromium-ffmpeg chromium-ffmpeg-20.0.1123.0-105.1.x86_64
I have had an eye on the network:chromium repository and saw that a new version was building, I assume all we have to wait for with it right now is for the server problems to be resolved? I'd definitely first like to wait and see if the new build would fix this issue for me before escalating this anywhere else.
sh-4.2$ rpm -q chromium libv8-3 chromium-20.0.1119.0-159.1.x86_64 libv8-3-3.10.6.0-69.1.x86_64

I just nuked my whole chromium configuration, downgraded to chromium-20.0.1094.0-1.17.2 from the update-current repo and redid my configuration by hand. I have no problems with this version, settings save properly, html5 videos work etc. I then did a zypper dup --from network:chromium to get to 20.0.1119, and the problems returned, no proper saving of settings (cookie exemptions etc) and no html5 videos. I'll wait and see if these problems will be gone in the next version (20.0.1123?) has been published to the network:chromium repository after all servers work fully again. That will also tell us if 20.0.1119's behaviour on my system is just a fluke or if there is a regression hidden somewhere. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So it looks like this was indeed some kind of problem in the 20.0.1119 build *only*, and thankfully not a regression overall. And while this doesn't really adress the bug itself in that I still don't know what exactly went wrong there, having the new build pushed to the repository, this hopefully won't be an issue anymore in the future. So should we close this? Thanks for all the responses as well, though! I still don't know what is causing this and it seems weird that it seemingly appears more or less randomly in some newer builds but not in others. sh-4.2$ rpm -q chromium libv8-3 chromium-ffmpeg chromium-20.0.1132.0-165.1.x86_64 libv8-3-3.10.8.4-72.1.x86_64 chromium-ffmpeg-20.0.1123.0-111.1.x86_64 Symptoms are the same as above, though settings seem to stick now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I assume this will fix it, since after updating from your proposed repository via zypper dup --from Packman html5 videos work again. That was an angle I never questioned, since I assumed the Packman repo was up-to-date either way. I'll keep an eye on future updates to see if this indeed solves it, but this absolutely makes sense as the cause for my troubles! Cheers, Peter I hope (and think) this can be closed since this seems to be a very likely candidate for a more permanent solution! ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
