[Bug 393108] New: Upgrading kernel renders system unbootable except in failsafe mode

Steps to reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 11 Beta 3 from GNOME Live CD (don't enable any repositories before install, just close any windows that display on boot and then go directly to the install). 2. Boot into new system. 3. sudo rm /.buildenv to work around bug #392054 and bug #389177 (I also tried this before running the install in step 1, with identical results). 4. Enable factory-oss, factory-non-oss, and updates. 5. Upgrade kernel-default to 2.6.25.4-2 from factory-oss. 6. Reboot system. 7. At GRUB prompt, select "OpenSUSE 11.0 - 2.6.25.4-2" or "OpenSUSE 11.0" (identical in menu.lst). Expected results: Boot, display login screen. Actual results: Blank screen, no apparent action even after waiting several minutes. I'm really not sure how to investigate this. There are no longer any broken links in /boot. We checked in a new kernel into the build system today, it should fix the issue.
For now use the kernel of the day from: ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD.
That one should work again.
Now with KOTD cisco vpn client don't work: :~ # /etc/init.d/vpnclient_init start Starting /opt/cisco-vpnclient/bin/vpnclient: insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.25.4-HEAD_20080520151401-default/CiscoVPN/cisco_ipsec.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module Failed (insmod) Everything was ok with previous kernel from Beta 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
