In factory, network manager no longer seems to work. I can get an address with DHCP but there are no entries in resolv.conf and there is no default route entry in the routing table. When I trigger dhclient manually from the command line I get an error in the /etc/dhclient.conf file (see blow). SOLUTION: I edited /etc/dhclient.conf and removed "network-number" from the options, then retried clicking on network manager and things are now fine. I also deleted resolv.conf and rebooted and again networking worked this time. Thus, on reboot eth0 does not get an IP from the dhcp server. If I comment out "network-number" in the request line in /etc/dhclient.conf, the interface gets an IP from the server. Repopening bug. This gets installed by default and does not work in /etc/dhclient.conf: request subnet-mask, network-number, broadcast-address, routers, interface-mtu, host-name, domain-name, domain-name-servers, nis-domain, nis-servers, nds-context, nds-servers, nds-tree-name, netbios-name-servers, netbios-dd-server, netbios-node-type, netbios-scope, ntp-servers; Modifying the above to: request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, routers, interface-mtu, host-name, domain-name, domain-name-servers, nis-domain, nis-servers, nds-context, nds-servers, nds-tree-name, netbios-name-servers, netbios-dd-server, netbios-node-type, netbios-scope, ntp-servers; Fixes the problem and allows IP lease from dhcp server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I haven't used PPP lately (except for pptp with kvpnc) but even after updating to 11.1 final I am still regularly not getting the DNS server set correctly in resolv.conf (maybe 50% of the time), and sometimes (only 2 or 3 times since the update to 11.1 final) not getting a default route either. The original problem that there was the dhclient(-script) calculated network-number variable used as dhcp option in dhclient.conf is fixed. The problem mentioned in e.g. comment #23 is of different nature: The user has to coose between NetworkManager and Traditional setup during the installation (or in yast2 lan/Network Settings, Global Options TAB). This exclusivity is intended for proper network manager functionality. When NETWORKMANAGER=yes, only the settings provided by the network manager with fallback to static settings are used. When NETWORKMANAGER=no, settings provided by the network manager are ignored. In case of ppp, the settings are provided to the NetworkManager via the nm-pppd-plugin to the network manager. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The problem mentioned in e.g. comment #23 is of different nature:
In case of ppp, the settings are provided to the NetworkManager via the nm-pppd-plugin to the network manager.
This is new in 11.1, right? I used to work with networkmanager for ethX and ppp, e.g. kinternet, before, and it worked just fine. So this change should be included in the release notes. Which package provides nm-pppd-plugin? A zypper search does give no result. As far as I can see a default installation does not allow to configure ppp connections with network manager using kde3.5. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
