[Bug 461101] New: prompt-for-confirm + nvidia drivers == hung machine.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461101 Summary: prompt-for-confirm + nvidia drivers == hung machine. Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jnelson-suse@jamponi.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- See original bug 460729 for more details, but the long and short of it is this: I have a Lenovo T61p Laptop which uses the nvidia drivers. If I enable boot script confirmation, and let the prompt time out, the screen goes blank and stays that way, the external keyboard is locked, and the machine is completely unavailable until I reboot it. The power button does not work. Nothing works (except caplock on the built-in keyboard) but holding down the button until it actually powers off. The setting I refer to is this: # For interactive debugging of the startup process. If set # to "yes" the system will ask whether to confirm every # step of the boot process. This will however only work # if the keyboard is already accessable at this time, # eg. USB keyboards need their modules loaded first. # PROMPT_FOR_CONFIRM="no" PROMPT_FOR_CONFIRM="yes" If I set that to "no" the machine boots fine. If I set it to "yes" and let it timeout (5 seconds), the machine is hung. If I set it to "yes" and respond to it (in the affirmative), even if just to say "continue" the machine boots fine. This even happens in runlevel 1. This ONLY happens when both the drivers *and* the PROMPT_FOR_CONFIRM is set to "yes" *and* you let the prompt timeout. The package versions: x11-video-nvidiaG02-177.82-1.1 nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default-177.82_2.6.27.7_9.1-1.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'll try to get the hwinfo later today, as I can't interrupt things right now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It exits with an exit code of 0 (zero). I tried at least 4 times. It goes through all the motions, hangs a bit on ddc, and outputs nothing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
