But to complicate things, I did build and install other versions of nut from the 10.3 src rpms when the original suse ones didn't work, and I even built a 2.2.1 src rpm :). But for what it's worth here's why I think upsd needed to be in the uucp group: ls -al /dev/hiddev0 crw-rw-r-- 1 root uucp 180, 96 2008-02-16 10:41 /dev/hiddev0 And also: wget "ftp://ftp.kaist.ac.kr/opensuse/update/10.3/rpm/src/nut-2.2.0-20.2.src.rpm" rpm -Uvh nut-2.2.0-20.2.src.rpm less /usr/src/packages/SPECS/nut.spec %configure\ <snip> --with-group=uucp The uucp appears to be in that src rpm. The character device /dev/hiddev0 was created as follows: cd /dev mknod /dev/hiddev0 c 180 96 chown :uucp hiddev0 chmod 0664 hiddev0 Don't forget to set the .htaccess file for /cgi-bin/nut. (see /etc/ups/upsset.conf) You will also have to modify /etc/apache2/default-server.conf and set AllowOverride All to be able to use the .htaccess file. Additionally, you will also have to create the [admin] section in upsd.users .
