https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756663 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756663#c0 Summary: kernel oops on Intel Cedar Trail Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: harbrink@bluewin.ch QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0 On a new install of 12.1 on a brand new Asus R11CX netbook (Intel Cedar Trail platform) kernel oops at boot-time reliably. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Install 12.1 on a R11CX netbook (presumably all Cedar Trail netbooks). Boot. Kernel oops, see below. (The same with 12.2M2. 11.4 works, but only with fb-graphics. Meego with Cedar Trail patches works fine, see https://meego.com/downloads/releases/1.2/meego-v1.2-netbooks) Actual Results: The oops: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000010 IP: [<f7c64026>] drm_fb_helper_init+0x116/0x180 [drm_kms_helper] *pdpt = 0000000034bfc001 *pde = 0000000000000000 Oops: 0002 [#1] PREEMPT SMP Modules linked in: psb_gfx(C+) drm_kms_helper drm thermal i2c_algo_bit video processor thermal_sys Pis: 123, comm: modprobe Tainted: G C 3.1.0-1.2-desktop #1 ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. I am willing to test the patches, if you can provide a repository, from which I can include the kernel at installation time. Since I can't boot, I can't build any kernel myself :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think, the netbook was just a bad buy :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756663 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756663#c2 --- Comment #2 from Eberhard Harbrink <harbrink@bluewin.ch> 2012-04-12 20:11:56 UTC --- It seems to be fixed in standard kernel 3.3. The system booted when I included Kernel:/stable/standard at installation. I will do some more testing. If everthing is ok, I will close the bug, since 3.3 is in the factory. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's helpful that it's already fixed upstream, so we can just find the fix and incorporate it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
