When using with oss, no other application can generate any sound, moreover, some applications have to be restarted after playing sid music. Howevers, starting artsd, and selecting the artsd outpid in sidplay makes it possible to use sidplay simultaneously with other sound generating applications. I must notice, that artsd constantly consumes about 4-5% of CPU time even when doing nothing, but if one starts it with the -s N parameters, it will stop any activity in N seconds of application's inactivity, and thus it will consume no CPU power until it has to. In my case the commandline is : '/opt/kde3/bin/artsd -s 1' I'm afraid that the whole arts will be discarded from openSUSE 11.2 together with KDE3, but please consider keeping and autostarting it.
