[Bug 1069905] New: [doc] update kexec usage
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1069905 Bug ID: 1069905 Summary: [doc] update kexec usage Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Documentation Assignee: fs@suse.com Reporter: bwiedemann@suse.com QA Contact: fs@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Now that bug 1007335 is fixed, we should also update the docs 17.5 Basic Kexec Usage https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/tuning/html/book.sle.tuning/cha.... Note: This is for normal machine operation, not for debugging like kdump: A sysadmin needs to do once systemctl enable kexec-load.service to be able to use systemctl kexec to reboot into a new kernel If it is desired that 'reboot' also does the same as systemctl kexec the sysadmin can do once ln -s /usr/lib/systemd/system/kexec.target /etc/systemd/system/reboot.target On a physical server, the difference in reboot time can be large: 30s with kexec 150s without kexec For virtual machines the timing difference is smaller: 7 seconds diff were measured with a 3s grub timeout -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
