It's neither something new that needs to be implemented nor discussed or whatever but simply something that is currently missing in the rpms you package and therefore a bug. Further it obviously is needed by everyone who doesn't use openSUSE but wants to install the guest additions (also the guest addition rpms don't work quite some times so one has to compile them manually on openSUSE) so I honestly fail to see the need to vote for this. Therefore please poke legal to review the license (iirc it should be fine) and if they agree please add it as a rpm. Last but not least let me say that "I am against adding guest additions" isn't what I consider a valid argument and tbh I get the impression that "Please file a feature" is more and more often the answer to burry it there until it shows up in the top 5 and I get kinda tired of it (the last part is not aimed at you personally but more my personal impression in the last time). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Last but not least let me say that "I am against adding guest additions" isn't what I consider a valid argument
argument is : you could download this iso trough virtualbox menu: devices/install guest addition but for sure I will ask license team if we could add vboxadditions iso to our distro -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Whereas the license could give us the necessary rights to redistribute, it certainly is not OSI compatible. Furthermore, I don't believe it falls into the category of firmware/data content. Thus, it would have to be in Non-Free. The question of whether we want it there is one that needs to be answered by etc. the openSUSE Board. From a legal perspective, the license appears to give us redistribution rights to the unmodified .iso - provided of course that it is possible to ship the .iso independent of the non-oss version of virtualbox. Thus, I would say that the decision whether or not to include the iso in Non-Free should be taken by the openSUSE board. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

7. Can I redistribute the VirtualBox binaries? No. The Personal Use and Evaluation License allows you to download the VirtualBox binaries for personal and academic use and for evaluation, but it does not give you the right to redistribute these binaries. So you may not put them onto your own websites or other mirrors. We do this because we would presently like to keep track of how many people are downloading these binaries. The no-distribution restriction does not apply to the Open Source Edition (OSE), as the GPL does, of course, permit redistribution of source and binaries, provided that you adhere to the other terms and conditions of the GPL.

And when installing the guest additions in Windows it asks for a License agreement with the PUEL so that tells me that we can't redistribute the iso. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

And when installing the guest additions in Windows it asks for a License agreement with the PUEL so that tells me that we can't redistribute the iso.
Read Section 2.2 of the license. Then read comment #6 above. The assumption that it is possible redistribute the guest additions for openSUSE is based on: (1). the (re)distribution is of unmodified guest additions (2). the (re)distribution can be done independent of Sun's VirtualBox PUEL (i.e. the guest additions iso is a separate image It doesn't surprise me that end users are asked to agree to the PUEL on installation of the guest additions. By way of comparison, for openSUSE, Novell is allowed to redistribute Adobe Acrobat - yet the End User is still asked to agree to a EULA on installation/first run. This is quite commonplace for proprietary software. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
