[Bug 678055] New: Cannot type root password in KDM authorization dialog at login screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678055 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678055#c0 Summary: Cannot type root password in KDM authorization dialog at login screen Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: joschibrauchle@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/9.0.597.107 Safari/534.13 I have restricted KDE to only allow the root user to shutdown or reboot the machine. Now, when I try to shutdown or reboot the machine from the KDM login screen, I cannot type anything into the authorization dialog which prompts for the root password. The dialog box just does not accept any input! The cursor is blinking inside the box, but no keyboard input is accepted. Hence, in order to reboot the machine, I either have to login as root in KDE, or I have to switch to a text console and also log in as root. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Configure KDE to restrict reboot/shutdown to root: 1. start YaST -> "Security and Users" -> "Security Center and Hardening" 2. select "Boot Settings", "Boot Permissions" 3. select "Only root" for "Shutdown Behavior of KDM Login Manager" Now (re)boot to the KDM login screen, then 1. Click "Menu" on the bottom left 2. Click "Shutdown", select either "Reboot" or "Shutdown", does not matter 3. An "Root Authorization required" dialog box pops up 4. Try to type the root password Actual Results: The "Root Authorization required" dialog box does not accept any keyboard input. Expected Results: The "Root Authorization required" should accept the root password and reboot/shutdown the machine after a click on "OK". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Rebooting from within KDE goes into a similar password prompt, but without those problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The problem only occurs at the KDM login screen when no user is logged in. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
