http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537016 Summary: Live CD loads wrong driver for network card Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: poddo@suffolk.lib.ny.us QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- The default driver (tulip) does not work for my card. I have to manually switch to dmfe for networking to work: rmmod tulip modprobe dmfe This may be a separate issue, but the GUI does not appear to change the driver when editing the Ethernet card settings. When using the tulip driver ifconfig shows TX errors for the interface. Bellow is a snipped from the log from where I switched drivers: Sep 4 17:07:21 linux kernel: vendor=8086 device=244e Sep 4 17:07:21 linux kernel: tulip 0000:02:07.0: PCI INT A disabled Sep 4 17:07:21 linux ifdown: Network interface is managed from NetworkManager Sep 4 17:07:21 linux ifdown: NetworkManager cannot be advised to take down an interface. This may be a separate issue, but the GUI does not appear to change the driver when editing the Ethernet card settings.
If you remove dmfe from /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf does the GUI work properly? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Reported this issue to the maintainers. Ubuntu is "fixing" the issue with this patch:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-karmic.git;a=commitdiff_plain;h...
Ubuntu 8.04 used the correct driver (dmfe). Referring to related Debian bugs, it appears that these Davicom cards require tulip on sparc64 platforms and dmfe on x86 platforms. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=326723 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=284730 These bugs were reported 4-5 years ago, I don't know if they apply here. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There was no change, the driver used remains unchanged. Are changes to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist immediate or do they take effect on reboot? I'm using a live CD, changes will not be maintained past a reboot. I assume changes made with the YaST GUI should take effect immediately. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
