[Bug 737553] New: rpc.idmapd not started automatically
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737553 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737553#c0 Summary: rpc.idmapd not started automatically Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: devel@fresse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0a1) Gecko/20111118 Firefox/11.0a1 When mounting nfs4 shares the user mapping is supposed to happen through rpc.idmapd. However this service isn't started even though rpc_pipefs has been force-mounted during the boot. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Mount rpc_pipefs through an fstab entry rpc_pipefs /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs rpc_pipefs defaults 0 0 2. Put NFS_START_SERVICES="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/nfs Actual Results: rpc.idmapd is not started automatically. Expected Results: rpc.idmapd should have been started according to the documentation in /etc/sysconfig/nfs. Manually starting rpc.idmapd works so it's just systemd failing to start the service. Exactly the same settings worked in opensuse 11.3 and opensuse 11.4. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't understand, this *IS* bug 737553
Just brainstorming, is this documentation maybe outdated?:
# Always start NFS services (gssd, idmapd), not only if # there are nfs mounts in /etc/fstab. This is likely to be # needed if you use an automounter for NFS. # NFS_START_SERVICES="yes"
Needed also if you mount nfs manually. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737553 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737553#c8 --- Comment #8 from lynn wilson <lynn@steve-ss.com> 2012-05-25 18:12:23 UTC --- The same. Kerberos under nfs3 or nfs4 is impossible for mere mortals via Yast. You have to be an expert to get a 12.1 server to talk to a client. A rocket scientist to get the a 12.1 client to get the automounter to do it for you. Could we perhaps simply: rcnfs restart detect what we have on the client? This becomes apparent when running rpc.gssd -fvvv When you do, and have a ticket, it mounts. Otherwise it doesn't. This is not a problem for Kerberos experts but becomes one when Yast advertises its capability to handle it for you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
